Robinho’s talents were obvious early in life - and he signed his first contract with a local football academy at just six years-of-age! However, it was not long before he was lured to the Santos Youth Programme under Brazilian football legend Pelé.
At 16 he made his professional debut with Santos and helped them win two Brazilian championships before joining Real Madrid in 2005, the same year he added the FIFA Confederations Cup to his list of honours.
Further international honours followed when, as member of the Brazil squad that stunned bitter rivals Argentina 3-0 to secure their eighth Copa America title, Robinho was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament. His hat-trick in the 3-0 win against Chile helped him add the Top Scorer award.
